What Is the Yu-Gi-Oh! Edison Format?
The Edison format recreates competitive Yu-Gi-Oh! as it was played in April 2010, right after the Shonen Jump Championship Edison, New Jersey event — the tournament that gave this format its name.
It uses the April 2010 Forbidden & Limited List and only includes cards that were released and legal by that date, giving players a balanced, nostalgic experience that focuses on smart play and classic strategies.
Format Highlights
Card Pool: Up to Absolute Powerforce (early 2010).
Banlist: Official April 2010 Forbidden & Limited List.
Mechanics: Only Fusion and Synchro Monsters — no Xyz, Pendulum, or Link cards.
Gameplay: Slower, more tactical duels that reward good timing, resource management, and decision-making.
Why Players Love It
Balanced power level: Many decks can compete successfully.
Variety: You’ll see decks like Blackwings, Lightsworn, Gladiator Beasts, Quickdraw Dandywarrior, Frog Monarchs, and Hero Beat.
Nostalgia: Experience the golden age of Yu-Gi-Oh! with cards and strategies from a classic era.
Skill-based play: Winning comes from reading your opponent and playing smart, not just pulling off long combo chains.
How to Play
Build your deck using cards legal as of April 2010, following that era’s Forbidden & Limited List (you can check resources like EdisonFormat.com for full details). Traditional 2010 rulings apply — including priority and Damage Step interactions from that time.
Gather your favorite classic cards and get ready for a blast from the past!
